Did I mention that I hated Fort Valley?  Not that Fort Valley was a bad place but I never fit in.  I did not have a lot of friends growing up.  I was light skin with a cleft chin and my middle name was Lopez, so I was always asked if I was Mexican.  This was a small town in the south, so everyone was either black or white.  I was too light skin for some people and too dark for the other people.  I did not have birthday parties or sleepovers.  The only sport that my Gram would allow me to play until I got to Jr. High was baseball.  I was sheltered and a frankly I was a cry baby all through elementary school.   I was starting 6th grade which in Fort Valley was a part of Jr. High School.  This was a rough year for your boy!  My first day I remember thinking damn these some big ass kids.  I swear that entire 8th grade class was all on steroids.  I am talking about the girls too.  I was this quiet awkward kid trying t...

Can you believe the first quarter of 2018 is almost over?!  One of my goals for 2018 was to get back into great physical shape.  I really become comfortable with my "Dad body" with my pooch belly and not thinking about exercise.  That was until 7 months ago when I walked into Team Octopus Boxing gym and realized that I still had my ultracompetitive spirit. Since that time I have committed to the discipline of boxing and the results are great.  I have lost 25 pounds, body fat percentage has dropped tremendously, and I feel great. This week I faced my biggest challenge at Team Octopus!!!  I actually stepped into the ring to spar and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!  I must admit I was very nervous and anxious.  It wasn't until I actually got hit that the nerves calmed down.  It's funny how getting hit in the face will force you to use the skills you have learned. “Arrogant” is one of the few labels that was used to describe me over the last 37 years and 8 months.  I never thought of myself as arrogant, conceited, or cocky even though most people would tell you I was.  Truth be told; growing up I never had much of a high self esteem until I realized that what other people thought of me did not matter. At that point I began to focus on my dreams and goals then life began to open up for me.  For the last two years I have constantly reminded myself and anyone connected to me to “Lets Be Great Today #1Down”! In 2018 it’s time to accept the fact that you are great and GREATNESS is YOU! To be able to accept the fact that You Are Greatness you will have to accept the fact that you are Slightly Arrogant!
